The database group at CWI is the gatekeeper of the MonetDB
project. MonetDB is a by-product of its past 10 years of research
activity in the field of database architecture, applied to a
diverse collection of application areas (spanning OLAP, data
mining, GIS, object-oriented databases, image and video databases,
and XML querying). During this time, many people have been
Contributors
to MonetDB.

The database reasearch group at Universität Tübingen develops the
purely relational XQuery compiler Pathfinder.
Pathfinder employs relational encodings of both, XML data and
XQuery programs, carefully geared to turn MonetDB into a highly
scalable and efficient XQuery processor: MonetDB/XQuery.

The CRM software product company SPSS/Data Distilleries has based
its analytical server product line with OLAP and data mining
functionality on MonetDB. This means that somewhere in the
compute centers of its big finance sector customers, a MonetDB is
running (this includes companies like
ABN Amro,
ING Postbank,
Aegon,
Vodafone,
Center Parcs,
OHRA, and
IMP).

The database research group at Twente Technical University has
developed the MOA front end for distributed object oriented data
management. They also use MonetDB for digital media warehouses,
multi-media retrieval and (in the past) for GIS data management.

The Large Distributed Databases group at Utrecht University has
been pivotal in the design of the data mining products of Data
Distilleries. Their current interest lies in relational
data-mining with a particular emphasis on bio-informatics.

The Knowledge Discovery Laboratory of University of Massachusetts,
Amherst is developing a new version of the PROXIMITY relational data
mining tool as a front end to MonetDB.

The Nederlands Forensich Instituut is a prime user of the MonetDB/XQuery
functionality. We co-develop the XIRAF system geared at harvesting
confiscated harddisks.
